30 Seconds to Happiness

Imagine if Happiness was with us all the time. Imagine if we could re-frame our thoughts so that Happiness could be with us in 30 seconds or less.

Well, it is possible and in reality, Happiness and Overwhelming Joy are ours if we take each day to cultivate what makes us happy.

Now that might sound simple, but I will tell you that in reality it is not. We seem to over complicate Happiness. We think that doing and getting are the keys to Happiness when in fact it is being and giving that is the key.

We get so caught up in the tasks of a modern, commercialised life that we somehow forget that Happiness does not come from a schedule that it is not an emotion to be hard-earned.

Happiness is best enjoyed spontaneously. It is found when we discovery superb pleasure in a moment, a connection with a friend or the feel of sunshine on our face. Happiness takes less than 30 seconds to expand and this happens more and more when we delight in the simply interactions in life.

Simple life interactions like enjoying a cup of tea, walking through a garden, writing about the day's events, doodling, daydreaming, breathing in deeply, listening to silence, sharing a few silly jokes, dancing around the room, playing cards or calling a friend are just a few examples on how to expand a happy heart.

The key to developing a happy heart in 30 seconds is to first identify what makes us dizzyingly happy. If we only do what we believe should bring us contentment, our 30 seconds will not be particularly satisfying. When we allow ourselves the freedom to do whatever brings us pleasure, finding happiness in 30 seconds will brighten our lives immeasurably.

It is true that when we unwind - we enjoy ourselves the most. But in a normal day, we aren’t in a state of unwind. So, I feel that creating happiness moments throughout the day allows us to indulge in the things that inspire elation within us. When we do this, happiness becomes part of our daily routine. When we activity seek out activities that bring us happiness and when we stop to savour those moments, we will gradually think up new and different ways to find happiness in 30 seconds.

Eventually, our 30 second happiness breaks will become an established part of our routine. If we start noticing activities that we already enjoy, we will gradually think up new and different ways to find happiness in 30 seconds. Imagine how good that would feel!

Sending you happy thoughts, right now.
